LITTLE MONSTERS EVERYWHERE

I was so thrilled when Amy McDonald  asked me to write the montly guest post at  The Butterfly Effect (where we're all really very pretty)  this month and pick a theme. It was kind of a no brainer for me. I thought about it for a little bit, tossing ideas around, but there were the Little Monsters, jumping up and down doing the pee-pee dance,  hand in the air, using their outside voices… “Pick Me!! Pick ME!!”

I see little monsters everywhere, do you?

There have always been little monsters everywhere:
I am well acquainted with monsters. They’ve been my companions for 60 years now, rattling their chains, gnashing their teeth, drooling in anticipation of making me their next meal, or at the very least, chewing me up and spitting me out again.  They gloat and whisper to me from the corners of my mind, taunts snarled and growled, about of my imperfections, my inadequacies, my shortcomings, my failures.  Little monsters real or imagined are difficult to ignore.

But, there are some monsters that are not ugly, scaly, sharp toothed and frightening. Some are actually cute and furry, cuddly. Or when we see them for who/what they really are, they’re not all that frightening after all. Perhaps that is why Beauty and the Beast is among my favorite fairy tales.

What are the little monsters that YOU see everywhere? I encourage you to write about them, paint, sculpt, stitch them, sing to them, play with them, and above all… dance with them. They’re remarkably light on their feet and they’re not scary when they’re dancing.

LITTLE MONSTERS EVERYWHERE
Monsters in my closet,
Monsters under my bed,
Monsters in my dreamtimes,
And Monsters in my head,
Monsters lurking in my office,
In piles of paper yet to shred,
Deadlines passed, and overdue,
A panicked sense of dread.
The best way to deal with monsters?
Be brave and take a chance,
Forget your fear, put on a smile,
And ask them all to dance!
